The department was established in 1973 and over the years the department has produced a number of PhD's and M.Phil's. and is currently still continuing with this programme. Twenty of our students have qualified the UGC NET Examinations. The faculty is actively involved in publishing. Threre are three creative writers (poets) on the faculty with published works to their credit. The faculty have been awarded Commonwealth Teacher Fellowship and also Fulbright Fellowship. The department had a visiting Fulbright Fellow for one semester. Recently renowned novelist Valerie Miner visited the department and conducted a workshop on creative writing.
